Is #girlgand Shahid's way of promoting Mausam?

Twitter had a rather strange term trending on its Mumbai and India list for a good part of Thursday. Was it a newly-coined word? Was it a typo? Or simply, a publicity stunt?

SPREAD THE WORD
On Thursday, around noon, actor Shahid Kapoor, whose film 'Mausam' releases this weekend, tweeted, "premier tonight my girlgand deciding what i should wear :)". He quickly deleted the post and tweeted again, replacing 'girlgand' with 'girlgang'. But by then thousands of tweets with the hash tag 'girlgand' were doing the rounds and within a matter of minutes the word was on top of the trending list. About four hours later, he posted this: "Hahahaha my typo trending ... Pata hota to roz karta is mahine yAar...."

Reactions to Shahid's 'typo' ranged from outrage to praise, for what many termed a clever PR exercise of the eve of a film release. Many ridiculed Shahid too. For instance, one user, Sudhish Kamath, said, "What do you call the wind coming out of Shahid's #Girlgand? Air Force." MTV India posted this tweet on its official page: "For every Twitter typo Shahid Kapoor makes, donate Rs 32 to the poor. That way, everyone will be above the poverty line in no time."

User Aman Bajaj had this to say: '#girlgand trending on the eve of mausams release ..whoa!! who saw that coming !! #Australia 's best at sledging & we at Publicity Stunts"

Intentional or not, the 'typo' did manage to create some buzz for a film that has been jinxed and forced to delay its release date.
